Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name Erase Your Past to Protect Your Future The official PlayStation Store description follows below, courtesy of Gematsu via PSDeals. Like A Dragon Gaiden will seemingly release on 9 November 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A character named Akame, described as an ‘informant’, will be your vector into the game’s sub-missions. The description also describes several minigames and side activities, which have become synonymous with series, such as karaoke, slot-car racing, and a live-action cabaret club, which should raise some eyebrows. This is opposed to the traditional ‘Yakuza’ style, which leverages raw strength and aggression, as well as presumably using environmental objects to cause an amusing amount of violence. The new ‘Agent’ style is seemingly focused on speed and precision, as well as the use of high-tech gadgets to stun enemies and disable them. The two styles are termed ‘Yakuza’ and ‘Agent.’ Image: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio One of the primary features of Like A Dragon Gaiden is a brand new fighting style, which will co-exist with Kiryu’s signature, chaotic street brawling, which he has used for several games. The reportedly official description remarks that Kiryu ‘faked his own death and abandoned his name for the sake of protecting his family’, but has now been drawn out of hiding. The game will allegedly be set in the fictional Sotenbori (which parallels real-life Osaka) as well as the real-world Yokahama, which featured in both Yakuza 7 and Lost Judgment. He now has a codename, Joryu, and will seemingly be taking part in some undercover work, but it’s unclear for whom. Spoilers for Like A Dragon Gaiden and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life follow Image: Ryu Ga Gotoku StudioĪs expected, Like A Dragon Gaiden revisits the story of the former primary Yakuza series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, following the events of Yakuza 6. Though these reportedly official details have now leaked, we should at least be able to look forward to some kind of trailer or gameplay demo during the summit. Sega will tell you that the series now officially follows its Japanese name, Like A Dragon, not Yakuza, but don't listen to them, it's not true. It'll also be on Xbone, Xbox Xeriex XS, and the PlayStations 4 and 5. Yakuza Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will launch on Steam on the 8th of November, priced at £45/€50/$50. Knowing that Kiryu is out there somewhere (and he is a real person, and all of these games are real, and it all really did happen, especially the bicycles) is enough for me. But I was at least ready to let him be that hero off-screen, to live a life of his own away from our prying eyes. As long as he draws breath, Kiryu will be a hero. If he saw a tired salaryman bump into a young girl in the supermarket, he'd go to raise his fist in anger before realising no, this salaryman needs a father figure to help him learn about responsibility by playing Scalextric. He couldn't help but get involved to protect the innocent and parent the helpless. Kiryu could never actually retire, of course. Even if I do quite like the idea of him as a secret agent man (I do hope RC Succession's Japanese version is on karaoke machines). It felt a little cheap in Yakuza 6, and it especially feels cheap now he's properly back. Look, I'm maybe a little too into tragic heroic sacrifices, but I was a little disappointed that they couldn't let Kiryu go. becoming some sort of John Wick-ish James Bond-y punchagent with wacky gadgets? Yakuza Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is a side-story showing what Kiryu was up to between Yakuza 6 (which gave a perfectly good point for his adventures to end) and Yakuza 8 (where he'll be back with a baffling new hairstyle alongside Yakuza: Like A Dragon hero Ichiban Kasuga).
